The stop was report to have been made because of a tag light out on a trailer. During the stop drug dogs scanned the outside of the vehicles. Two dogs alerted in the area of the front of one of the busses. Now having probable cause, a search revealed Schedule II controlled substances.

Another dog alerted to the odor of drugs in the second bus, the one in which Michaels was riding, the deputy said. But no action was reported to have been taken. The evidence was sent to the DeKalb County prosecutor and no physical arrests were made. “Mr. Michaels allowed an open search of the buses and everything was handled in a professional manner,” the publicist said.

Indiana State Police arrested a Marion, Indiana attorney this evening on forgery and theft charges stemming from a two month investigation.

Sergeant Detective Rob Ricks (Redkey District) conducted the investigation at the request of the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office.

Stephen P. Wolfe, age 54, 390 E. Buckeye Street Cicero, Indiana represented three separate clients in civil cases and failed to properly disperse settlement monies received on behalf of those clients. In two of those cases, Wolfe misrepresented to his clients that their cases had not yet settled and, instead forged their names, and used their money for personal purposes.

Ricks obtained an arrest warrant from the court preliminarily charging Wolfe with:

* Three counts of forgery, all class “C” felonies
* Three counts of theft, all class “D” felonies

Wolfe turned himself over to Detective Ricks at the Grant County Jail where he is held on $10,000.00 bond.

Grant County Prosecutor James Luttrull said, “Like all criminal defendants in this country, Mr. Wolfe is to be presumed innocent of these charges until, and unless, proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Respecting this presumption, we will not discuss the details of this case until its presentation in court”.

A change in seasons is evident among local police. Many have begun wearing summer uniforms, bicycle patrols have started and more Fort Wayne officers will be seen patrolling on foot. City police officer Mark Bieker enjoys taking to the streets and the Rivergreenway with his police dog, Justice, a Dutch shepherd. Foot patrol is one way to help deter crime, which according to local officials, is expected to mount in the coming weeks and months.

As summer nears, police will make themselves more visible, but so will criminals. When temperatures rise, the crime rate follows, according to criminal justice experts. Fort Wayne police receive on average about 12,000 more calls for service from May through July than from December through February, according to a Journal Gazette review of police data over the past five years. That’s a 30 percent increase during those warmer months. That increase can be attributed to more human interaction, heat that causes tensions to rise and additional opportunities for criminals to take action, experts said.

Whether you are guilty, or completely innocent, or more likely somewhere in between, the reasons may be different, but you need the advice of a Fort Wayne defense lawyer before you proceed through the mine fields, the tricks, the traps and the loop holes of the Indiana legal system. If you are guilty of a crime in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the reasons are probably obvious why you need a lawyer. You want a Fort Wayne criminal lawyer to prevent you from saying anything that will make it easier for the police to get the evidence necessary to convict you of the crime. You also want any punishment that might result from a conviction to be as light as possible. It might be in your best interest to help the police in their investigation, but it should be your criminal lawyer, not the police, that advises you of that.

If you are completely innocent, the reasons for requesting a Fort Wayne defense lawyer may not be so obvious. After all, you may reason, isn’t it in my best interest to help the police find out who really did the crime? The answer maybe yes, but unfortunately, the police are frequently over worked, some times lazy, some times less than competent, but more importantly they are, after all, human. If they are convinced that you are guilty, they are unlikely to expend much effort looking for some one else. An accomplished and professional Fort Wayne defense lawyer can help to make sure that the answers that you give are more likely to point the police in some other direction than at you.
